Dear Blog

Dear Blog,

I really miss you, I do. Just because I can’t manage to post very frequently these days, I want you to know that it’s about me, not you. (I know I used this excuse lamely to a fair share of boys in my time, but really, with you, it’s true.) I adore you. And it makes me feel so great when I press the “publish” button. And even better when readers join in and share comments with me.

For one thing, we’re selling our house. What that means is that when we get home, the entire family tries not to move anything out of place from the sterile surroundings that we’ve created on the advice of the stager. (To her credit, the place does look fantastic — it just doesn’t look like we live there anymore!) So my laptop is hidden away, as opposed to its convenient, usual spot on the dining room table. But I rarely manage to get it out of its hiding spot anymore because we’re so busy keeping the place sterile that by the time the kids are in bed and all the tidying is done, I don’t have an ounce of enthusiasm left for anything but my bed. (It really does take a lot out of a person to be constantly blurting out: DON’T TOUCH THE WALLS!!)

And before this house prep thing, I was pulling off a single parenting gig while hubby took a trip to visit his family and help celebrate his sister’s wedding. He was gone for 12 days and 12 night (not that anyone was counting)… and they were a long 12 days and 12 nights! I managed to keep the kids in clean clothes and fed with healthy food, but everything else went out the window — especially my brain, it seemed! During that time I managed to wear my shirt backwards to work, pour my coffee creamer into the garbage instead of the cup, forget my work laptop at home, back my car into a ditch … well, you get the picture.

Also, when I started my new job in August, one of the things I was most excited about was the opportunity to redevelop the company’s website. The project is now up and running and as the person responsible for the words on the site, it’s been a tad hectic. But I am really happy to share that all of the content is now being coded and we should have a new site up by the end of the month. I can almost taste it!

Anyhow, this is all a bit dull. Like a Christmas letter listing everything we’ve done in the past year. But I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I haven’t forgotten about you. Not even close.

Julie

  1. I’m so impressed! And having to do it solo for almost two weeks? Oy

  2. you are selling your house? why? can i buy your amazing backyard?

  3. We are also selling our house so I understand completely what you are going through. I’ve trained my kids to take their shoes/boots off outside on the step and carry them inside because I got tired of scrubbing mud off the woodwork every morning.

It is all incredibly tiring; but I also find living in such a tidy, de-cluttered house really relaxing too.

  4. Wow being a solo parent for 12 days, I can sympathize with that. My hubby works shift work and being home with your kids is no easy task. I wish you the best of luck on selling your house!

  5. 12 days! you are my hero. I was on my own with my kiddies for 5 days and I was exhausted when he got back. I finally got around to adding your blog to my reader! I kept wondering why I didn’t visit here enough and then it dawned on me, she’s not in my reader! So there you go.

  6. Wow! You’re moving and started a new job! Busy indeed!
    I hope both go well!
