I totally agree on the fact that we do dress up our daughters for “us” but I have to say I love it and am treasuring it so much! My princess loves all the girly things; sparkly clothing, jewelery, painting toes, make-up and of course her sparkling gowns; She loves all those things while running through the muck! Love the topic! Keep up the good work.

I don’t have daughters who dress as princesses, but my sons are obsessed with Disney, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse every morning at 7am… so I’ll throw our hat into the ring.

I don’t want to be in the draw, but I just wanted to assure you that the Pokemon phase will just be totally over one day real soon and the torn jeans phase may very well be over one day soon as well. At 17 my daughter has gone through so many phases, from one extreme to the other, from one fad obesession to the other that I can’t keep up. Among all those phases there WILL be opportunities for you to buy her something pretty that she will wear; there WILL be opportunties to do each others’ hair; there WILL be shopping, gossiping and watching a chick flick together. The key is just to ride out the phases and not kick up too much against them because it just makes them go on much longer than either of you wants them to.

As it goes, with daughter #1 we were determined to be generic – no character-filled stuff in this house!

When daughter #2 was about 11 months old, she crawled up to a complete stranger, pointed at her shirt and said “Dora”…her first word.
It’s basically been downhill since then.

They don’t refer to them as “princesses” but as “Disney princesses”…and they beg, literally beg for us to go to Disney land (how do they even know of this place) so they can see where the princesses live.

On the other hand, they still dig in the dirt for worms, love climbing trees and beating the boys in a foot-race.

In our house, the princesses rule…but Spiderman is also pretty cool.

Well, it wouldn’t be for me and Mae as she is “over” her princess phase but there is a girl at the dance studio who’s family has been having a rough year and I think she would love this. So I’ll enter for her. )
