Saturdays with Stella*: 10 Awesome Things

Have you read The Book of Awesome? There are two of them now and I’ve read them both. They’re great.

So in the theme of “awesome,” I present to you my 10 awesome things …

#1:  Libraries: Books are my life. And seriously, video games, do you really think that you are better than a building full of wizards, wolves and Mr. Willy Wonkas?

#2:  Making any thing yourself: what’s better than the satisfaction of making your own stuff!

#3:  Chickens, ospreys and humming birds: three words … world’s cutest birds!

#4:  Art or fabric stores: Get ready to enter a fantasy world of what could happen if you had everything in there!

#5:  Finally getting the hang of drawing a certain kind of dragon: You spend hours of erasing and redrawing that pesky wing and then it hits you by surprise — you got the whole dragon right!

#6:  Finding that sport you really like: You spend long rainy days thinking over it and then it pops into your tired brain; whether it be anything from cricket to quiditch!

#7:  The smell of spring and fall: ahhh… the gentle fragrance of dead worms and rotting leaves!

#8:  Pavlova: Extremely tasty, you might want to make yourself one. Call me; I’ll give you the recipe.

#9:  Very old and dangerous play grounds: Watch out for that rusty hole, we don’t want to have to get a tetanus shot!  Try not to go flying off the merry-go-round! And don’t go down that metal slide, it’s been cooking in the afternoon sun all day! The dodgier, the better!

#10:  Little kid shows:  If you pay real close attention to it, there are actually hilarious details. Like have you noticed that the Backyardigans move at the speed of snails and somehow end up in Texas in three seconds!

P.S. Speaking of awesome, we went to Smuggler’s Notch last weekend and it was awesome! You can read what my mom wrote about it here

*Stella is my 10-year-old daughter and on Saturdays, I let her rent this space from me because she thinks blogs are cool. It is her hope that her writing will appeal to kids her age as well as to the adults who read here too. (For the intro to Saturdays with Stella, click here.)
