School for Bloggers: Finding a Signature Look (#LINK2013)

@coffeewithjulie's conference boots

Two Christmases ago, my husband gifted me with a new pair of boots. Knowing my love of the Fluevog, we visited a local store that carried some and happened upon a pair that were on sale. Tall. Bright. Yellow. Not the kind of boots that you could wear everyday, but Hubby encouraged me to get them.

Lately, I’ve come to refer to these boots as “my conference boots.” Before a conference that I’m attending starts, I will tweet: “Looking forward to meeting you at [conference name]. I’m the one in the bright yellow boots. Please say hi!”

This little ritual has worked well for me, allowing me to meet many people who might otherwise have slipped past me in a crowd. All in all, I felt like I was a tiny bit brilliant in doing this.

In fact, I’ve just returned from a conference in Toronto. Called #LINK2013, it was hosted by SheBlogs Media. I was excited to attend this event — to finally see the faces that belonged to the avatars and twitter handles that I’ve been connecting, sharing, and working with for more than a year now. To be sure, I packed my trusty “conference boots” in my bag even though they took up half of its packing space.

As per my routine, I tweeted out on the first morning of #LINK2013 how I could be recognized.

And then this happened.

By this point, I was already in the first session of the conference and it took me a little bit to catch on to the Maven’s tweet. In the meantime, some entertaining tweeting was taking place.

And it would seem that a new signature look had been identified for me, and even a location for where I could find this aforementioned look.

At least I know what to ask Hubby for Christmas this year.

P.S. You can find other posts on conferences I’ve attended by using the search bar at the top right-hand corner and entering “School for Bloggers.
