Target Stores Open in Ottawa: What’s All the Buzz About?

Target's Opening Day in Ottawa

I was long overdue to finally have a coffee with The Maven of Mayhem. We decided today was the day.

And I decided, “Hey, maybe we could check out the new Target store opening up in our neighbourhood while we’re at it?”

Yeah, great idea Julie. The parking lot was jammed. The mall was the busiest it had been in months. Maybe even years, actually.

So was Target sponge buzz-worthy? Well, fair readers, you can skip the crowds because I’ve got the low-down for you!

The 80s are Back. Real Bad.

The women’s clothing section didn’t really grab me. Granted, I didn’t actually look that closely. I was too distracted by all the sparkles, neon colours, and leg warmers. Yeah, that’s right, baby — LEG WARMERS! I was crazy excited to see them. But would I actually wear leg warmers for the second time around? Well, no.

The Kids Clothes are Cute. Seriously Cute.

The kids t-shirts and shirts had some super fun and super cute designs, like the one above. And the prices weren’t bad either.

The Home Section. I May Have Drooled on some Items.

And what was Amanda doing while I was busy geeking out over all the home decor items and snapping pictures of practically everything that didn’t move? Oh, photo-bombing me of course.

The verdict? I’ll be back to take a closer look at the kids and home decor sections again for sure. But I definitely don’t think I can do it without Amanda now. It won’t be nearly as fun!

Comments

  1. Nothing is nearly as fun without Amanda! she rocks :)

thanks for the lowdown….. I have never been to a Target but I truly hate the big W, so am looking forward to another option. The home stuff looks great!

And if Olivia Newton John calls to get “Physical” you can direct her to the ladies department! lol

  2. Our Target has been open a while now. I don’t see it as being much cheaper or better than Wal-Mart. There are a few items that I haven’t seen anywhere else which is nice and the kids clothes are pretty cute but for a basic t-shirt, it’s a good couple $$ more than Wal-Mart ($4-6 vs $7-9)

I will say their toy section seems better than my local Wal-Mart, specifically the Lego which is great because my hubby AND my oldest LOVE Lego :)

We’re in the process of renovating our “formal” living room so I’ll need some new pieces. Maybe Target will provide them :)

  3. I totally agree with you! Ours opened in the spring and it certainly garnered a lot of attention to itself! I went and was pretty disappointed with the selection there. The decor, store layout, and lighting reminds me of Zellers and their prices are definitely not US prices. As for the clothing section, I prefer to go to Joe’s at Loblaws. Cuter and more affordable.

  4. Our friendly neighborhood Target store opened up a few months back, and holy cow is that place ever busy. All. The. Time.

I’ve only been in there two times thus far, but like you I found the home section rather intriguing.

  5. Gotta check it out ASAP. (Wonder if the Maven is taking bookings…. :D)

  6. Sounds like a fun outing! I do find the selection and Target feels fresh. I took my oldest there for some dorm room shopping and she gave it 2 thumbs up!

  7. Our Target isn’t nearly as fun as yours. That t-shirt is insanely cute :) I still find Walmart better with pricing and everything I need but that’s just me.

  8. Been waiting for our one to open up in the old Zellers location. Mainly because I miss Zellers but am also curious about Target and what they have to offer. They sent me some fun back to school stuff and that was all great….

  9. Did you go the one at Hazeldean? It took me longer to get out of the parking lot than I took in the store

  10. Stumbled upon your blog this morning while bopping around the blogosphere. Love the US Target stores, but had heard the Canadian ones didn’t have the same deals…..think I may let the crowds die down before I venture in.
    Cheers,

  11. So now that I’ve been to Target a billion times this week, I have to say that my date with you was the perfect inauguration. You failed to mention how often you squealed in delight and practically jumped over people’s carts to take pictures of things. You were way more fun than anything in that store – including the unicorn sweater (and that says a lot.)

    • So true! I practically broke into a rendition of Flashdance when I saw those leg warmers! Plus, I do recall fondling some tall boots that were in someone else’s cart. I’m sure she won’t notice the drool.

  12. Morning! I just wanted to let you know I’m a big fan of your blog! I also just nominated you for a blog award, it’s called the Liebster Award. Here’s the shout out on my blog: http://morningcoffeeconfessions.blogspot.ca/2013/09/i-was-nominated-twice-for-liebster-award.html

You don’t have to participate if you don’t want to, I just wanted a chance to highlight a fellow Canadian blogger :)

    Jen
