I’m not sure why, but I have developed a massive crush with tree stump furniture. By “furniture,” I mean side tables or stools. I love the natural textures and the casual look of them. Plus, they are versatile and can be easily moved around to different rooms. I’ve been collecting images in a Pinterest board and here are some of my favourites:
Reclaimed wood timber coffeetable/stool/seat by Real Wood Works: $201.61
Proverbs 31 Girl created this piece herself. I love the dipped look!
Knowing my little obsession, Hubby came across some large tree branches and brought them home. When I saw them in the garage, I was so excited! But he cautioned me not to get too anxious because this wood needed to dry out first.
That was more than a year ago. I had no idea about this “drying out” business. I thought I could just have a branch chainsawed up and *voila* – perfect new tree stump furniture! Needless to say, I am not thrilled with all this waiting around.
But remember how my birthday wasn’t too long ago? Well … guess what I got?! Yep, my new tree stump furniture!
Both Hubby and I really love the cracks that came along during the drying process. They add so much character!
The original tree stump is poplar tree, while the darker more polished piece on the top is wenge. If this wenge wood sounds familiar, you might remember it from our master bedroom bed and side tables … it’s left over from those.
Hubby added sliders on the bottom of both side tables so that we could easily push them around without scratching the floors. I was really surprised how heavy these tables turned out to be! I can barely lift one, so this little extra is very handy.
Hubby still can’t believe that people actually want tree stumps in their living rooms. But I am just as in love with them as ever! What do you think about the tree stump furniture trend?
P.S. Yes, it’s true! I am doing a giveaway for straight cash. It’s open to anyone in the world. 185 smackeroos could be yours! Enter here. (Closes on Nov 18/13.)
Those are gorgeous. Flat out gorgeous. I am officially jonesing for one of my own!
Pinned!
Glad you like them Becky! And thanks for the pin
I LOVE tree stump furniture! We saved a lot of stumps this summer for future projects! I can’t wait to get started! LOVE what you created!
Love it! We’re in the process (I say process due to the drying time) of making a tree stump table from old birch tree branches. I love these tables!
I love these! Thankfully our in laws live in the forest and we got out materials for free! I love the top on yours.
I love them. Love love love them.
We’ve used them as side tables on the patio for the last two or three summers, but now they’re coming inside to dry!
I’m going to be handing this post to DH and saying, “Do it, please.” : D
Ha! Tell your DH not to hold it against my DH
Oh my goodness, these are flat out amazing. Totally wish my husband could make something like that. Beautiful beautiful.
They’re gorgeous.
Love them sooooo much!!
They are awesome, love how they turned out and your darker wood tops makes them extra awesome. I too love the trend and made some for my house- http://www.lifeisaparty.ca/2012/tree-stump-end-tables/
The white paint is a great look – thanks for sharing yours! I’m curious if the paint started to chip off the bark after time? I’d like to try this look too.
No it hasn’t chipped, but apparently most bark falls off the log as it drys, so my tree guy recommended this specific type of wood. One year later the top is slightly discoloured from a little sap, but nothing another coat of paint on top won’t fix. I’m really happy with them still.
This is great news! I have so much wood in my house, some white would be very welcome …
I have a feeling there will be quite few husbands quietly cursing your talented husband, as we all go to them begging for a table like this!
gorgeous
I shared all these nice comments with Hubby last night. He was so flattered!
I am also obsessed with tree trunk furniture! I have a special hankering for side tables
Those are just beautiful!
These are fabulous – I actually like your square ones even better than the inspiration shots! Is your hubby taking orders?
I say YAY! Especially when paired with really modern furniture. I love the warmth of wood; every room should have at least a little
I love them! I am scouring the net looking for local stores to purchase them at….but am now considering making them my next project.
Hi, would love you to mention my Tree Trunk Table work (if you like it) on your site…Thanks

I’m happy with the size of my kitchen, but I really need new cabinets, granite countertops, and slate floors. We spend so much time in there it would be nice to have a beautiful space I could entertain in.canada flooding cleanup
