Old School and New Skool: Two New Blogging Tools for Moi!

It feels strange to put the words “blogging” and “business” together. But that’s what it has turned out to be in many ways. It’s a labour of love since I put far more effort and energy in than I get out in dollars and cents. But there are dollars and cents involved now (you can read details here, I try to keep things as open and transparent as possible) and that means, by definition, that it’s a business.

Like all businesses, there are some basic tools or equipment required. For a grass-cutting business, a lawnmower … for a seamstress, a sewing machine … but what does a blogger need?

Business cards. Yes, bloggers use business cards. It surprised me at first too. It’s so old school. But when you’re at an event, not everyone wants to pull out their phone and start inputting your info. Plus, at a big event where you’ve met a ton of people, it’s just impossible to remember everyone. That’s where business cards come in handy. After the event, you can pull them out and touch base with all the interesting people you met.

Here are my new business cards! They’ve just arrived from MOO.com. They’re simple, but I think they’ll do the trick.

The next thing a blogger needs is internet access. ALL THE TIME. Which is where a smart phone comes in. To date, I’ve only had one smart phone. It’s a BlackBerry Bold that I got in 2009 (or maybe 2010?). Anyhow, it’s been very well loved and I can’t see how I can go on living without a smart phone now.

I’ve been holding out for the new BlackBerry Q10 because I am very attached to having a physical keyboard. Yesterday, I picked up this baby. Oh my, I am in loooovvvveee. It’s my new skool tool.

Blackberry Q10 in WhiteNext on the list? I am in the market and saving up for a new laptop. I bought the one I currently use in 2007, which is like 100 years ago in computer years. It’s getting really geriatric on me. Unlike my phone though, I don’t have my eye on anything particular. I’m not sure what I should get … all I know is that I want something that is lighter and faster than what I have now.

How about you … any new tools or gadgets on your wish list?

P.S. If you’d like to get some business cards. I have a discount code from MOO for 15% off your first order: 2RB2CK. (This is not an affiliate thing. Just a discount code I have for anyone who needs or wants it.)

  1. Cool. Since I am once again changing emphasis and direction, I ordered some Moo cards that were offered complimentary! I will try them out and go from there!

    Can’t wait to exchange cards:)

I’m drooling over your Q10. My BB Curve is done. The battery won’t hold. A new battery costs $50, but it’ll cost over $100 to get out of my contract eight months early. (I’m supposed to keep paying monthly for an unusable phone. GROWL.)
Anyway, what do you think of the Q10. Like?

    • Oh, I was in the same boat with my phone. My Bold kept dying on me all the time in the middle of conversations. Plus, I’d lost the back part that covered the battery, so that didn’t help things! I arranged my whole contract on twitter with @RogersHelps. I love working with @RogersHelps! I no longer get all agro waiting on a phone line and whatnot. I am really, really loving the Q10. And the keyboard is amazing … like a dream, I swear!

  3. When looking for a new laptop, look for intel core i5 or i7 processor – they’re *really* fast, so all responses on software loads/browser scripts are pretty immediate. HP Spectre 14″ is a sweet and fast laptop/notebook; I haven’t had any issues with it. :)

Ohhhh…I love your new business cards.
