Yeah, good question! Agreed to go to a movie night with a girlfriend, and unwittingly inflicted this upon myself! Part way through, I asked if we could leave, but she wanted to see if b/c her daughter is into the series. In the end, she thought is was awful too.
Phew. Julie, may you NEVER feel badly about your daughter not being like every other girl in the universe. (Age-specific, or otherwise.) NEITHER IS HER MOTHER, obviously.
(Cannot stand this particular fad, for the record. And I was a tomboy, too.)

I’m late jumping in here, but I’m reading the book right now….did you read them? I was curious about all the fuss and I enjoy a good fluffy read sometimes. I was able to get through Twilight (barely) but I’m not sure I’m going to be able to even finish the second one.
I haven’t seen the movies but will likely give them a miss based on your review.
