Apres-Ski Green Beaver Boreal Face Cream and My Cosmetics Quest

Green Beaver Boreal Face Cream (40 ml)

Sure, snow looks pretty. But that doesn’t mean my skin likes it. Dry, winter skin is sort of a fact of life from December through to April in this area of the world. So I was definitely intrigued when I came across a Green Beaver line of lotion called “Apres-ski.” I needed some new cream since I’d run out of my other stuff and our family has had a good experience with the Green Beaver Shampoo and Conditioner, so I thought I’d give this line a try.

There is a face cream (shown above) as well as a body lotion. So let’s start with the face cream. In sum, I like it. I like it a lot. Here’s why:

#1: Friendly Ingredient List

First of all, it helps me along my quest to use safer cosmetics and body care products that I embarked upon back in November. It does NOT contain: silicone, petrolatum (why?), paraben (why?), phenoxyethanol or formaldedhye releaser preservatives, artificial fragrances (why?) or dyes, phthalates (why?), sulfates or ingredients generating carcinogenic nitrosamines. Also, it is not tested on animals, is biodegradeable and gluten-free.

#2: Reasonable Price

I know that people fork out tons of money for expensive face creams at my age. I’m prone to getting sucked into the claims on the side of the bottle too, but that fairy dust usually fades quickly and I realize nothing is going to change the fact that my skin is 41 years old. So I prefer to just get the straight goods. The Green Beaver Boreal Face Cream is available in-store at Ottawa’s Terra20 for $18, or if you are outside of Ottawa, you can also get this cream online from the Green Beaver website and Well.ca for $14.99 (not including shipping costs).

#3: Made in Canada

The Green Beaver Company was founded by a Canadian husband and wife team. I like buying Canadian and knowing that I’m supporting Canadian businesses. ‘Enuf said.

#4: Non-Greasy, Unscented

Even though I don’t believe the hype of face-cream advertising, I really do like to use a face cream every night before bed in the winter because my skin feels so tight. I keep this nice little jar on my bedside table and use it on my face and on the top of my hands before I go to sleep. It has a nice texture, doesn’t feel greasy on my skin, and has no smell to it. My skin hasn’t reacted at all to it (the skin on my face will often sting with other creams, I guess it’s sensitive).

Apres-Ski Green Beaver Boreal Body Lotion (240 ml)

Now, I also mentioned that I also bought the Apres-Ski Green Beaver Boreal Body Lotion. I am CRAZY over the scent of this lotion … sort of a hint of forest or something! I have been slathering this lotion on my legs after my morning shower. It does not absorb quickly, so I do my makeup while it’s soaking in. It’s been doing a really good job at keeping my skin smooth rather than the dry, flaky mess it usually is during the winter.

So that about sums up my review on this line of skin cream. Apparently there is a hand cream too, but I haven’t tried it yet myself. Feel free to leave any questions or share your own favourite skin creams in the comments section below!

P.S.  If you’re interested in The Green Beaver Company and you live in the Ottawa area, you’ll want to know that they will be in town this Saturday, March 9th from noon to 4pm at Terra20! You’ll be able to get all your questions answered as well as to enter to win a Green Beaver prize pack.
