And, now back to you! (Mark’s $50 Giveaway)

You’ve had just about enough “Month of Me” by now, I’m sure. So, let’s turn it back to you!

I have a treat for one of you: A $50 gift certificate from my BFF (aka Mark’s, remember?) … and just in time for the season change! (Yes, because I do still need to convince myself that I don’t hate winter. Cozy, cute winter clothes will help, right?)

I love online shopping (here’s a list of my favourite spots for getting errands done) and clothes shopping in increasingly joining my ever-expanding group of things that I never had to enter a mall for ever again. I think the only thing I still actually enjoy shopping for in person is shoes and books, and even those I still buy online sometimes too.

Anyhow, I digress. My point was that Mark’s has been working on creating a better online shopping experience on their website. It launched TODAY, and they’re really excited about it and would like you to take a look. In exchange for doing so, one of you will win a $50 gift certificate.

I’ve taken a good poke around the site and I’ve decided that if I was given $50 to spend at Mark’s, I would pick this:

This is the Denver Hayes Soft Draft Cardigan, and it’s priced at $33.74. With my left-over money, I would also add this to my shopping bag:

Mark’s calls these “Home Socks” which seems just perfect, because when I get home from the office I do love to put on big fluffy socks instead of slippers. These socks are priced at $14.99.

That brings my total to $48.73. And shipping is free until the end of the year anywhere in Canada!

I’d definitely be happy with the above selections. But I do think that, although they’ve made great strides in the right direction (such as adding customer review options, and cleaning up the design), Mark’s still needs to work on increasing the online inventory in the days ahead if they want to provide a true shopping experience. And I am hopeful that they will. (Especially so that I can add them to my list of faves!).

So, now it’s your turn. If you won the $50, what would you spend it on?

To enter this giveaway:

  • Simply browse through the Mark’s website enter your selection(s) in the comments section below.
  • I will do a draw using random.org in one week’s time (November 9th).
Good luck and have fun checking out the site!

Mark is a very popular boy

It looks like I’m not the only one who fell in love with Mark’s for women’s clothing! You can check out other outfits and opinions at the following Ottawa blogs as well:

  • Andrea at a peek inside the fishbowl has turned out to be my twin sister (albeit a 5′ 10″ twin sister with supermodel cheekbones!) with the almost identical outfit.
  • Christine, on the other hand, over at Coffees and Commutes is likely in the petite sizes and I’m sure you’ll agree she looks really fabulous in her Mark’s makeover outfit.
  • Lara at Gliding Through Motherhood noted that she was pleased to find great style in her size. (Although I suspect her size will be changing again soon thanks to Losing it in Ottawa)
  • Dani from Postcards from the Mothership also penned a love letter. She looks really happy in her photos but it’s hard to tell if that’s because of the outfit or because she escaped her de-cluttering work at the house!
  • Vicky from Some kind of Wondermom got into a groovy dress that looks like it’s a skirt and blouse. I think she’s right that with a cardi, it’s great for teaching and on its own, it’s great for a night out.
  • The ever-photogenic Loulou was also at Mark’s. You can check out her sparkly pink top and skinny black jeans on her blog Loulou’s views.

Did I miss anyone? Let me know! I’m loving the chance to see all these different outfits and different peeps!

My new BFF is named Mark

When I was younger (and er, smaller), I loved clothes shopping. But now, I only like (love!) shoe shopping.

Everything else leaves me feeling very, very grumpy. It is simply not fun to try on 10 pairs of pants just to find one that looks “okay.” Not “great” and “fabulous” — but just okay. And when you have very little spare time, I think you’ll agree that this is pretty much the last way you’d want to spend it. To add insult to injury, you then need to fork over your hard-earned cash for something that you feel just “okay” about.

All in all, clothes shopping has transformed itself from a fun experience to a chore that I like to get done and over with as expediently as possible. I’ve found ways to do this, too. I will block off a whole day and go to one or two stores that I know sell clothes that will work for me. I will only buy full outfits — never just a top or a skirt. I want the whole package all at once. I don’t want to have to shop around in other stores to find a match. This might sound like a more expensive way of doing things, but in the end I think I save a lot of money and closet space with this “method.”

My husband shops this way too. Basically he goes into The Bay or Mark’s Work Warehouse and gets all he needs, all at once. So perhaps I actually learned my “method” from him.

So when I received an invitation from the same Mark’s Work Warehouse that my husband shops at, I immediately recognized the name and felt familiar with what their products were. But I guess that’s the point …. most of us have been into a Mark’s Work Warehouse for something practical, like construction boots or men’s jeans, but not to shop for stylish women’s clothing that you could wear on the weekend or to the office.

But this invitation asked me to do just that. To come on in to Mark’s and check out the women’s section — try some things on and let a team of stylists help you do it. AND keep the outfit to bring home. Who could say no, really?

So in addition to spoiling me rotten, my new BFF is named Mark because he introduced me to:

As you can tell, I’m really smitten. I’m thrilled with the outfit that was I given to take home (which you can see in this picture), but more than that, I’m going to go back again this weekend and treat myself to at least a few new outfits. Mark’s my new BFF … sizes that fit, waistbands that don’t dig in, no mall traffic to fight and really great prices!

Thanks to High Road Communications and Mark’s for opening my eyes — this is my kinda shopping!
